Ethereum is the birthplace of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. The network is home to the ether (ETH) token and over 600,000 ERC-20 tokens. Using our API, you can now connect your clients’ on-chain Ethereum and ERC-20 wallets to your platform.
Ethereum is a decentralized open-source blockchain network with smart contract and dApp (Decentralized Application) capabilities. It quickly grew to the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization after its launch. Decentralized Finance (DeFi) originated from the Ethereum ecosystem. The Ethereum network is fueled by its cryptocurrency token, ether (ETH).
Ethereum was conceived of in a whitepaper by Vitalik Buterin as a way to create a decentralized virtual machine that could do more than store value. Ethereum can implement smart contracts which are self-executing codes that run automatically when certain conditions are met. This opened the way for Decentralized Finance using smart contracts to remove third parties and automate certain elements of finance.
Users can also build their own tokens using smart contracts that can run on top of or alongside the Ethereum blockchain. Tokens built to the Ethereum standard are called ERC-20 tokens and well-known examples include Tether (USDT), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC).
With Blockmate, you don’t need to set up or connect to every cryptocurrency or protocol one by one. Everything you need is already here and part of our API, allowing you to jump right in!
